The Golden Roof of Innsbruck, the Kufstein Fortress with the Heroes' Organ or Rattenberg with its long glassmaking tradition - the most exciting sights, buildings and museums are almost always to be found in the middle of the old town.
The largest historic town center is in Hall in Tirol, which flourished for centuries thanks to the salt trade.
