The Tyrolean Stone Pine

The Tyrolean stone pine is not called Queen of the Alps for nothing. The pine species grows at an altitude of 1,400 to 2,600m above sea level. Due to its excellent properties, it definitely deserves this name. The inhabitants of the stone pine regions have always known about the positive properties of this wonderful tree. That is why people have been using stone pine for centuries for beds, wall cladding, furniture, and even entire stone pine rooms are made from it.

In our Sportresidenz Zillertal ****s, too, all rooms on the 2nd floor were clad with stone pine. Depending on the characteristics of the branches and resin inclusions, processed stone pine smells pleasantly sweet and woody. The essential oils in the stone pine are also retained for decades - the stone pine does not lose its scent. People felt particularly comfortable in stone pine parlors and toddlers lying in cradles made of stone pine do not scream as often. A research study by the Joanneum Research Institute confirms the effect.

Physical and mental stress tests were carried out in stone pine rooms and rooms with wooden décor. People who trained in stone pine rooms were able to recover much faster. According to this, the wood causes lower heart rate rates during physical and mental stress. The sleep study was also clear: a significantly better quality of sleep was measured in the stone pine bed. The heart rate drops demonstrably.

Old stone pine parlors in Tyrolean farmhouses still smell more than 80 - 100 years later - the scent is particularly intense when the air humidity is high, as moisture activates the essential oils in the wood. In addition, hardly any viable bacteria are found on stone pine. It is therefore much more hygienic than plastic and has the strongest antibacterial effect of all domestic types of wood.

The cones and seeds are used for food production and for the extraction of spirits such as liqueur and schnapps.
